Explained: Why Boppy Lounger Recall Over 3 Million Baby Loungers

After eight infants died while using the product then Boppy Company announced yesterday that it’s recalling 3.3 million of its popular baby lounger pillows.

Infants can suffocate if they move, roll, or are placed on the lounger in positions that obstruct their breathing, or who knows if they roll off the lounger onto another dangerous external surface, like an adult pillow or soft bedding, According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Between December 2015 and June 2020 tragic infant deaths occurred.

Said Robert S. Adler, “These kinds of incidents are heartbreaking,” acting as a chairman of the CPSC. “While sleeping due to the risk of suffocation, pillows and loungers sort of products strictly not allowed for infant sleep. Since as we all know infants sleep so much of the time, even in items not intended for sleep, and since suffocation can happen so quickly, It’s simply too risky to remain on the market with these Boppy lounger products.”

Parents should stop using the product immediately if they own a Boppy newborn lounger.
